The 48 hour wait

Woman&Finance MoneyMonday tip

The digital world has made it easy for us to connect and do business with people in places that would have otherwise been hard to reach. For the shopperholic, this means one can buy at the click of the button thereby bringing instant gratification.

Put a ‘system’ in place to help you buffer your impulse purchases.

Call it the 48 hour wait: after you have put all your items in the cart, don’t buy the items immediately; log off and only after 48 hours if you still feel compelled to buy, can you do the purchase.

You will find that, to begin with, the items were more of a want than need. This will help you cultivate good spending habits. Perhaps instead of buying shoes for R1,700, you direct those same funds into your emergency account?
