6 Books on Personal Finance You should read.

6 Books on Personal Finance You should read.

Hi Tribe,

I read a lot of books on personal development and personal finance, and recently I have started reading a few books on artificial intelligence and FinTech and because of the work I do, women always ask me what books to read. So I thought it to be a good idea to share some of my favourite books in an article.

1. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

I read this book in 2006, at the height of my career option confusion. I had finished high school the previous year and had no clue what I wanted to further my studies in. I picked up this book in my sister and brother-in-law’s library and I was hooked. After I had finished the book, I knew for sure what I wanted to do with my life: Make money, build wealth through my gifts and educate other people on how to do it.

This book gets straight to the point, it draws the line between the habits of rich and poor people. If you like the no nonsense, say-it-like-it-is approach that I personally like, then this book is for you. It will get you thinking about money practically and not emotionally.

2. The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley

I only picked up this book in January and I am still yet to finish it….yikes!!!(commitment issues??) Although I am halfway through the book, I must say I loved the research that went into the book by the authors. It proves all the clichés about money are true. Good money practices and management can be learned. It is not only the rich that can live a rich life. If we only applied a few simple rules about money and it would yield to us. A MUST READ.

3. Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

Although this book is not necessarily about money, it talks to the dynamics women face both in the workplace and home that impact on their bankability i.e. their net worth. It talks to women’s confidence, the different roles we play and how voicing our opinions and standing for our truth can actually help us as women achieve our goals and dreams. It speaks to standing for equality and collaborating as women… It is a manual for the millennial woman to navigate the workplace, entrepreneurship and home.

4. MONEY by Tony Robbins

I have been following Tony Robbins for over just 5 years now, he is super enthusiastic, straight talker but he also connects with his audience. Although I have read many of his books before, I only picked up MONEY in December (I catch up on my reading over the holiday seasons because I get quite busy with work during the year). I must say, the book can be intimidating, over 700 pages long!!!!! Even a book lover like myself was intimidated!! But nonetheless, it is packed with very practical information whilst making you feel like your financial dreams and goals are not far off.

The book is very interactive and helps you to be money conscious…and I am here for that!!!

5. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

“To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only real obligation.”

― Paulo Coelho

Probably one of my absolute favourite books ever ( together with The Prophet by Khalil Gibran). Again, a book that seemingly doesn’t have anything to do with personal finance but has so much lessons about life and money. I love this book so much I cannot explain to you in a few words what it is about. PLEASE do yourself a favour, if you have not read this book, do so, today. It will take you on a personal journey of discovery, which in turn can turn your financial life around completely. This is my #1 book.

6. Get Your Money Right, A 7-Day Guide – my eBook of-course!!!

Thought I would leave myself out of this list? Never!!! I wrote my first eBook last year and with over 900 downloads and positive feedback, there was no way I was leaving myself out 🙂 In the eBook I go through very simple principles on how to get your money right, on how to take charge of your finances instead of your money controlling you. My message is that money principles are sooo easy, only if we take the right steps and are not so emotional about money.

Money management is easy… say it with me: money management is easy.
